Day + 33: "Today (and every day) I fight in honor of my best friend Christa!"

Each night since we've been in the hospital here in Seattle, Rowan lays and thinks about who he wants to honor the next day.

The following morning we put their picture at the foot of his bed and he fights in their honor or memory, thinking about them throughout the day, especially when he is feeling his worst.

The next morning, when we put a new picture on his bed, we place the previous one on this closet door, with all of the others.

Yesterday in preparation for the big t-cell transplant today, Rowan pulled out the big guns...his friends God and Jesus:)

For today, part 3 of his transplant, the infusion of my genetically modified t-cells, Rowan has been saving a very special friend.

A friend who has held his hand through many difficult days...

A friend who has shared many fun days with him too...

A friend who, when I shaved Rowan's hair..

She shaved her own too...

They have been friends for almost 5 years now, since they met at Disney World on their 2011 Kidd's Kids Trip.  Before that trip, and even since then, they have both spent many days in the hospital.  3 years ago Christa underwent her own bone marrow transplant, with her brother as the donor.  Thank the Lord she is healed now, and her experience has made her an invaluable friend to Rowan.  She gave him lots of advice before he came up here this Summer for his own transplant.

They're friendship isn't just based on their extensive shared medical histories though.

They draw/paint each other pictures and mail them to each other...

They've shown up on each others doorstep to surprise each other...

They've had spa days together...

Fun photo shoots...

Silly disguises...

Fun at the park...

Face masks...

Dippin' dots at the zoo...

Carousel rides...

and dinner dates...

She recently surprised him with one of his bucket list items while he was here at the hospital...she sent him his first violin!

He can't wait to take lessons and learn how to play it!

Christa:

Thank you for being there for Rowan...not just for the important days...

But for ALL the days in between too...

You are his sunshine!

He adores you...his beautiful friend...inside and out!

Today... and every day, he fights in honor of YOU!

PS.  Thank you for your undying patience and grace.  Rowan wanted to save you for last, because you've helped him fight every single day of this battle.

We love you!

Today is for you Christa...
