"No offense Mom, but I think you got it kind of backwards."

As we were going to bed, Rowan asked me if Zoe and Ian had been baptized.  I told him yes, that they both had been baptized when they were babies.  Then he wanted to know why he had not been yet.  I told him that I guess we never got around to it because he's been sick or in the hospital so much and we have just been focused on getting his health under control. Then he dropped the bomb: "No offense Mom, but I think you got it kind of backwards.  I think me being baptized is more important.  That way we know God has my life under control, and I'll be fine either way."  What can you say to that?   He is right.  He is absolutely right.  So, I promised him that we will get him baptized...very soon!

He said he wants to be dunked all the way in the water when he does, and that he wants "a lot of people there to see it, just like at Jalene's viewing".  Then he had the most beautiful thought...he reminded me of how he saw Jesus at Jalene's viewing, hovering over her casket, smiling.  He remembered getting up in front of her family and friends at the funeral the next morning, and telling them that "Jesus was smiling because of how many people Jalene brought there to see him".  Rowan says he wants people to come watch him be baptized, so he can bring a lot of people to see Jesus too.  His precious smile just blew me away as his eyes lit up at the thought of it.  He asked me, "He would definitely come for that right?  I just hope every body can see him this time, not just me."

"I'm going to ask him to come, and for people to see him."

Oh Rowan, you are very special.  I am so sorry that we haven't ever had you baptized.  I promise to make that happen, and I promise to invite lots of people to join in your special day, and I hope and pray that we all see Jesus there too.

  1. Wherever 2 or more are gathered in his name, God is there. Feels like the whole area is getting baptized with this rain. This news makes me happy, and I'd love to be there when he gets dunked.
