As some of you know, Rowan had the opportunity of a lifetime a few months ago, when he went to tour the State Capitol, participated as an honorary member of the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee, was presented during sessions on both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and actually got to hit the gavel during session! It was such a great day. He went dressed in his full Texas Army National Guard uniform, and was accompanied by some of his fellow guardsmen.
Well, State Representative Doug Miller, and his wonderful wife Anne, contacted us a couple weeks ago and asked if they could come see Rowan to present him with some special items. We of course said yes, but we had no idea just how special their visit would be.
Representative Miller presented Rowan with some signed photographs from Rowan's day at the Capitol...
A copy of the resolution that was read on the floor that day...
and then, the biggest surprise of all, the gavel itself!!!
Rowan remembered how heavy it had been, and wanted to pick it right up.
Thank you so much Representative Miller and Mrs. Miller.
When you left, Rowan said, "How many other people have ever had that happen?! I don't know how, but my life keeps getting better and better...well, yes I do, God!"
Just look at these treasures...
This kid is going to need a museum of his very own for all of his special items. He started with a treasure box, but has long since filled that up. He now has a large bookshelf that is also overflowing with special mementos, and now another tub of items from the National Guard & the Capitol, that need a place to be proudly displayed. It is wonderfully overwhelming and all so special, not just to Rowan, but to our entire family. When Rowan started to fill up the treasure box a year or two ago, he told me, "My whole life is a treasure box actually!"
Thank you again Representative Miller and Mrs. Miller. For giving Rowan yet another reason to LOVE his LIFE!
