Day +1: "God already knew this part too."

The special clinical trial protocol that Rowan is a part of means he will actually get transplanted cells from me on 3 separate days.  Yesterday was Transplant #2, where he received targeted t-cells.  These specific t-cells are meant to help with engraftment while hopefully preventing graft-versus-host disease.

Rowan had a few special things with him in bed this time again too...

His "woobie" blanket from fellow Texas National Guardsman Sgt Leal...

The special turtle charm that his other Guardsman buddy David Hixson gave him (which went on multiple deployments with him)...

And the princess charm from Jalene's graveside one year memorial service...

Of course we took more pictures with the new bag of life when it arrived...

Then, Rowan talked to one of his "other Mothers", Chrissie's Mom, Lorraine just as they were starting his t-cell infusion.  She prayed a beautiful prayer with our family as the transplant began. He wanted to talk to her before this one started, because he knew she always had the best prayers.

After we hung up, Lorraine texted me this picture of a rainbow she looked up and saw just after they spoke on the phone.  Chrissie has shown herself in rainbows many times, both to Lorraine and her family and to Rowan himself, so we all took this as a great sign!

Rowan did start to spike a fever midway through the infusion of cells, so blood cultures were sent off of to the lab.

Eventually he was started on vancomycin for gram positive cocci.  He had a pretty bad headache, for which he asked me to lay my hand on his forehead "so the Mommy-love can soak in".

For which he returned the favor...

He got some "Ian love" before they left for the night too.

Rowan did ok throughout the night, although his fever kept creeping back up.  When he woke up he told me not to worry because, "God already knew this part too."

Bless his heart.  We are so lucky he is the way he is...
a loving, sweet, faith-filled little boy, who knows: God's got this all planned out!
